What is It?
Life Insurance offers financial protection for your beneficiaries when you die. Some life insurance policies also accumalte cash value, offering a benefit while living that can be used for supplemental retirement income, funding for a child's education or cash for emergenices. Any cash value taken as a living benefit will reduce the death benefit, when paid.
Who Needs It?
This largely depends on your needs and income. If you have loved ones who rely on you for their financial needs (mortgage, bills, costly health issues, etc.) life insurance helps insure that their financial future isn't left to chance.
What is Covered?
Though there are many types of life policies that have a variety of features and benefits, the basic purpose of a life insurance policy is it pays your beneficiary a specified amount of money when you die in exchange for regular payment of premiums.
Different Types of Life Insurance
There are two basic types of life insurance: Permanent or Term Life insurance.
Permanent life insurance: Covers the life of the insured, usually up to age 121. Your beneficiaries are entitled to benefit within this timeframe. Most forms of this coverage accumulate a cash value, which can be used for a variety of life's opportunities and challenges along the way. It adds flexibility to your long term financial strategy.
Term life insurance: Provides protection for a set period of time and offers death benefit protection only; there is no cash value feature. This type is less flexible, but is an excellent way to get an amount of coverage that is comparable to permanet life insurance at a more affordable cost.
